Couples Baby Shower. How to Throw a Baby Shower for Couples

Below are great ideas for a fun Couples Baby Shower. Invite close friends, grandparents and those special people in the mom’s life. This is an easy baby shower to put together, it's so comfortable and easy to set up.

BABY SHOWER THEME: Sleeping Teddy

DECOR AND TAKE HOME GIFTS: Take small stuffed teddy bears and attach with ribbons to small clay flowerpots. Set it as if the teddy bear is holding the pot on its lap. Put a pretty little plant it each, one per couple and single guest. Then for the mother to be, give her the exact same gift with a big teddy holding the clay flowerpot (tie it to the bear with a ribbon). To conserve money put your take home gifts on the tables and larger bear for the “mom to be”, on the food table as a centerpiece! Then at the end of the party have the guests & soon to be mom, take home their appropriate gift.

Couples Baby Shower Activities

"WHO'S THAT BABY?"  -  Have all the guests bring baby pictures to the host ahead of time. Have them posted on a board with numbers. Give each person a piece of paper and let him or her guess who each baby is? You can choose to give a gift or not. You don't necessarily have to when you have take home gifts for each. This game is a great conversation starter!

"BABY BINGO"  - Make up blank bingo cards - have the guests fill them in with baby items, then you have precut pieces of paper with baby items on them and start pulling them as you would for bingo. Give the guests a colored marker to check off their called items.

"BABY NEEDS MEMORY GAME" - Place a bunch of new baby necessities on a tray (small items) and have them covered. When the game begins each person will have 10 seconds to look at it then you cover it back up. Even make the guests close their eyes until you tap them for their turn. After everyone has had a turn - hand them a piece of paper and pencil and give them 5 minutes to write down as many things as they can remember. The one with the most wins and the “mother to be” will receive all of the baby items on the tray - she will be thrilled.

FOOD: Have a good old fashion BBQ. Grille out your favorite food and even have the guests bring their favorite side dish or dessert.

TABLEWARE: Make sure you have pre-purchased a themed or colored table pattern. Supply one per person on the dinner and dessert plates, with 4 to 6 extra, in case you have surprise guests. Over buy the cups and napkins by about a half, in case a guest would happen to throw away their napkin or cup and then need new. Remember to supply enough napkins for the dinner and dessert, along with the extra.

Your friends and family will have a wonderful day of friendship and memories. What a wonderful way to share your love for the “mother to be”.

Tips For First Time Grandmothers

baby-gift-baskets-click-hereBaby's First Wagon Flower Bouquet - Preparing for baby is an exciting process that can be as unique as childbirth for first time grandmothers. Once you recover from the initial shock that your baby is no longer your baby, it's time to get mentally and physically prepared to offer proactive support to both mommy and daddy from the beginning of the pre-birth process until the end of the new mom's recuperation phase. It is truly more than preparing for baby showers, opening gifts, and recording cards.

It all begins with the announcement. From the moment you¡¦re told you are about to be a grandparent, nothing is the same. My husband and I received our announcement on Christmas Day. Our daughter and son-in-law came to the living room of their home to say the test was positive, congratulations grand mom! A new life had formed, a child was in the wings. The excitement is indescribable. It is one of many times you realize that it is only through the power of God that such a miracle would be possible. The months of preplanning begins by encouraging the mom to eat and sleep properly, initiate planning the baby shower with save the date cards, helping to monitor gift registries and coordinating materials that would be useful after the baby is born. Even selection of what the mom and baby would wear on their first trip home is reminiscent of the bridal planning process.

There are several issues, however, that are often overlooked during the preparation phase. The future Grandmother needs to be proactive about getting ready for the level of hands on input and support that will be needed from her before, during, and after the birth. Essential elements of grandmother preparation should include one of several things:

Watching your diet, taking vitamins, starting an exercise program, you could be actively involved in the birthing process. I was part of the designated support team and, as such, participated in the breathing exercises, hand holding and offering the gentle conversations my daughter needed while experiencing labor pains. In addition to singing songs, stroking her head with a wet cloth throughout the process, I reminded her of scripture verses that she could use as a source of her strength including I look beyond the hills from which cometh my strength. My help comes from the Lord who made both heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2 KJV)

Being prepared with a CD player or recorder for playing favorite her favorite music and other inspirational messages can be very helpful in providing comfort at the most strenuous moments. The Grandmother¡¦s role is pivotal for both the new mom and dad and she must be physically up to the challenge even in early hours of the day. The best time to get ready physically is before you are needed. A nine month low impact aerobic or regular walking routine will make a world of difference during a 10-20 hour labor.

Taking time to refresh your knowledge about pregnancy and birth. Especially if you are going to be part of the child birthing process, a brief refresher of what to expect would be helpful. Your daughter will look to you at various points of the process for your reassurance. It would be helpful if you are able to use terminology she learned during the birthing preparation classes to let her know you are aware of what she is experiencing and can relate with up to date information.

Setting aside at least two to three weeks time and being available to spend or be on call to help the new mom during the recuperation and adjustment period is an invaluable gift your daughter will never forget. Sleep schedules, adjusting to feeding, doctor appointments, stabilizing meal schedules, addressing unexpected emergencies, doctor visits, and helping with general lifestyle changes all make a difference between smooth and traumatic transition. The significance of your presence during this time cannot be measured.

Scheduling, Readiness, Packing--Do not wait until your daughter is heading to the hospital to pack items as you may be asked to stay with mom and dad at the hospital overnight. Be sure to include dried fruit, juice, peppermints, and other light refreshments you can use during break times. Our team took turns sleeping and eating during the 17 hours my daughter was in labor. We prepared a food kit that included toothbrush, wash cloth, music for her comfort, and fresh fruit. Unfortunately, hospital machines offer carbonated soda and potato chips that are uninviting during the early morning hours.

Another preplanned strategy you should consider is talking to the new mom and dad about what they may need from you after birth of the child. Often new parents don't consider the need for help until the issue arises. By initiating this conversation, new parents have the option to consider whether there is a need for help for one or two weeks to support a variety of issues including monitoring phone calls and visitors, helping with home chores, washing clothes, and preparing meals. These are a few of their favorite things.

Participating in the birth of your first grand-baby will mark a moment in your life that can only be matched by your daughter¡¦s birth. Your role is different this time, but it is pivotal to the joy of your daughter's birthing experience.

Congratulations Grandma!!

Baby Gift Baskets As Baby Shower Gifts

baby shower gift basketsIs there a new bundle of joy on the way? The feelings that surround a pregnancy or the birth of a new baby are feelings of joy and excitement.

Do you need a creative baby gift to give mother or baby?

Baby showers are given to symbolize a celebration of the expected arrival of a new life. Baby showers are usually filled with excitement, fun and include lots of games, gifts and giggles! Perhaps the only perplexing things that family and friends would find about them is the one surrounding the actual baby shower gift. For example... what to give (luxury or necessity), whom to direct it to (for mom or the baby), what package design would be best (fun, sweet, babyish). Also, how much to give, meaning what is the appropriate amount of money to spend on the gift.

A baby gift basket is a great way to package the things you want to give the new arrival. It can be designed and adorned with a variety of packaging, but the idea of the baby basket itself will always be something relating to a new baby. Fill your baby basket with small items from the gift registry. Mix and match your items. You could even purchase a more expensive gift for the main attraction and then surround that item with smaller ones, such as, wipes, bottles or burp rags. It is natural to wonder about whether the expectant parents would appreciate necessary items over luxury ones, or vice versa.

Luxury baby shower gifts are gifts that do not necessarily ease the burden over baby needs, but are gifts that a baby will enjoy having. This can include baby toys, like the ones they stare at when you dangle these items in front of them or over the baby crib. There are also baby chairs, such as the swinging ones, that babies can easily sleep in.

Necessary baby shower gifts, on the other hand, are the ones that can cater to what the baby will actually need. The most common of this kind of gift are baby clothes. Expectant parents will surely appreciate receiving baby clothes since it lessens the burden of having to shop for them. However, one thing to take note about in giving baby clothes is the natural inclination of every other person attending the baby shower to give clothes. Usually, people give clothes that would fit a baby in its first six months. The problem, then, is that parents can be saddled with more clothes than needed for the first six months of the baby's life, only to be unused after this duration. It is probably best to give baby clothes that can still be used even when the baby grows a bit older than six months of age. Other baby necessities include baby powder, diapers, baby bath items, utensils and such.

Baby gift baskets can be designed with a chosen theme. But what theme would be best? The determination of that decision would rely on what you know about the baby's parents. Are the expectant parents an outgoing couple? Then perhaps they would appreciate a fun and flavorful design. Are they of the practical sort? Maybe they would relate more with a design that is simpler or more direct. The distinction between what to design and what not to will always be based on what you think the recipients would go for. Also, be sure to spend a little extra on the container or basket so that it is suitable to use afterwards for storage of baby items.

Baby showers are wonderful. They are a happy, as well as a helpful, event for expectant parents. After all, the new baby gifts they would receive will lessen the burden of having to start from scratch in picking out and buying baby accessories. Just make sure your baby gift reflects you as well as the tastes of the new parents.
