  • Are money and happiness connected? Yes and no. It depends on what you do with it. We're talking about three ways that I create happiness with money every day that makes all the difference for my clients and myself personally, too.

    1. Stop limiting all your spending

The first way to create happiness with your money is to realize that Impulse spending is not all bad. We've talked about this time and time again, but in case you haven't heard, you need to have a specific fund within your budget called your play account for you to impulse spend.

Yes, there are correct ways to impulse spend. Stop beating yourself up. No guilt, no shame, no judgment. You get to spend money, and in fact, you need to spend money. So stop limiting all of it. Just don't do it.

    2. Give money away

The second way to create more happiness with your money is actually giving money away. Creating a positive relationship with money is very important, and when you give money, you do that.

There might be some struggle in the beginning when you start doing this. If this is not something you're doing actively right now, especially if things are tight, there can be resistance to giving money away, but you need to do it.

There's a concept called Wealth Wednesday. Every Wednesday, you do a random act of kindness for a stranger involving a financial exchange. So what you do is you pay it forward. You give money to somebody in a way that they cannot repay you.

    Random acts of kindness

This can be like paying for somebody behind you in the toll booth. This can be like tipping extra on your bill if you're going out to eat. This can be putting some money in a box of diapers at the store, reverse shoplifting, or something like that. We're giving money because giving money is more scalable than just giving your time.

It is definitely admirable to be giving with your time and being able to donate it and do those things. However, you can create a bigger impact when you give money, and you feel good about it, and there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, I'd encourage you to share it.

Make that your challenge today. No guilt, no shame, no judgment, with sharing that you were giving money and that you feel good about it. Because it's not about bragging. It's about encouraging others to do the same, to give back.

Can you imagine the change that can be created in the world if we are all more willing to give? We all have a healthier, positive relationship with our money; with your money and giving to others, you will see a difference.

3. Gratitude

The third way that you can create happiness with your money is with gratitude. Be grateful when you pay your bills. Be grateful for spending that money. Be grateful for what you have.

Gratitude increases our ability to receive more. We can't necessarily see that until we get out of the picture. There are always things to be grateful for. I personally do this, and I encourage my clients to do it.

Handwrite ten things that you're grateful for each and every day. It can be something simple. You have your eyesight. You have strength in your arms to hug those that you love. You have electricity. You were able to pay that electric bill. You were able to pay your car insurance. You were able to pay for your car payment. You're able to put gas in the car. That's a big one right now, right? We've seen gas prices.

You are grateful for what you have and are grateful when you're paying your bills. Yes, some of them suck. I get that, but when you do those three things, you're going to increase and create more happiness with your money because it is a powerful tool when you use it that way.

Money & happiness

Money & happiness

So we're not limiting all of our spending. You're going to be spending so you'll create more happiness that way because you're going to spend on ways that rejuvenate yourself, that feel good. You're creating that positive relationship with money, even with your spending.

We're going to take it to the next level with our giving. You're going to give money. You're going to help others not just with your time but with your money as well. It doesn't have to be a significant amount.

The third thing is we're creating that gratitude. We're grateful for what we do have and what we're able to do because, yes, it's something that we should do, but when you do that, you increase your ability to receive more because we are thankful and we are taking care of, and we're giving back to others with what we have now.

Those are the long-term principles that you need for actual financial progress.

Money and happiness are connected. So your challenge today is to give money in some way or some form. $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, or whatever you want to do. Post in the comments how you used your money to give to others.

Father's Day Is Coming, What Does Your Dad Enjoy?

June 18 will bring in another day to celebrate fathers this year! Father's Day is a day designed for expressing appreciation, respect, and love for the man who raised you. Father’s Day should be about your father, so don’t waste time agonizing over the right gift. This year, give the man who gives you so much a basket full of gifts for him to enjoy.
Gift baskets are the perfect Father’s Day gift and maybe the least expected. Isn’t that what everyone searches for – something different for Father's Day? What does your dad enjoy? What are his hobbies? What is something he has never experienced before? There is a Father's Day gift basket to answer each of these questions. Whether he is a connoisseur of fine coffees or spends his time fishing – there is a basket for him. What about the man who likes to grill or the man who just appreciates a good laugh? No matter your father’s personality or preferences, there is a gift basket sure to make him smile.
And for those who will not have the opportunity to see their fathers on Father's Day, why not send him a gift basket? Who says only cards can be mailed for Father’s Day? What a surprise it will be to walk to the mailbox expecting bills, only to find an entire basket filled with his favorite things. Gift baskets provide an easy and meaningful way to let your dad know that you are thinking about him even when you cannot be with him.
A father loves his child regardless of whether or not he receives a gift on Father’s Day. A father will not be disappointed with a gift he receives from his child. Because this is true, it seems even more important to present him with a special Father's Day gift that he will appreciate and use.
So this Father’s Day give your dad a gift that he is not expecting, a gift that will make him smile, a gift that will show him your appreciation. Instead of another tie to add to his collection, another wallet or another coffee mug to set on the shelf, show your father that you put thought into this gift. Give him the gift that shows you know the person your father truly is and that you appreciate who he is. Give him a gift basket for Father’s Day.

Impress Your Dad With A Father's Day Gift Basket

Gifts for Dad on Father's Day

Picking out just the right Father's Day gift for your Dad isn’t always an easy task.

Maybe your dad is the strong silent type who doesn’t ever give any clues about what he wants for Father’s Day, or maybe he just insists that you don’t need to get him anything at all.

When you’re not sure what to buy, a gift basket for Father's Day can be an excellent option.

Father's Day gift baskets allow you to present your dad with something that is both creatively arranged and filled with things that he loves. There are many benefits of sending a gift basket for dad through the mail versus giving a traditional gift, and here are just a few.

Personalization of Father's Day Gift Baskets

Father’s Day sport themed gift baskets come in a wide variety of themes, from fishing and hunting to horses. Rather than choosing a gift basket based on the design theme, you can also send dad a gourmet food basket based on the foods that he loves. Anything from coffee and wine to chocolates and drink mixes can be included in your Father’s Day gift delivery. This will make your dad feel special because it will be clear that you put thought and care into the gift you selected.

Convenience Gift Baskets

Spending hours searching the mall for the right gift takes time and energy, and may not even yield the ideal Father’s Day gift. When you send a Father’s Day gift basket, you can order online and choose the best delivery date in much less time than it would take to give a traditional gift. When life gets busy and you don’t know how you’ll fit in a trip to the store, gift baskets make it possible to provide a meaningful gift that doesn’t take a lot of time to choose.

Unique Gift Basket Presentation

Sending your dad a gift basket for Father’s Day will make your gift stand apart from the typical gift of a new tie or baseball cap. While he might appreciate these additions to his wardrobe, a special gift basket will be far more memorable. The gift is also something he can enjoy for at least several days, or maybe longer. When the gift basket is filled with his favorite foods and guy toys, he can go back to it each time he wants a snack or a drink, and he’ll think of you and your thoughtful gesture.

Father’s Day gifts are a great way to show your dad that you appreciate everything he means to your life. This year, instead of giving him a traditional gift, surprise him with a gift basket delivery.

Father's Day, A Tribute To Fathers, Origin of Father's Day, Unique Gift Ideas For Dad, Father & Grandpa

fathers-day-gift-baskets-gifts-onlineHave you thought about what you are going to do to pay tribute to your father this coming Father's Day? Perhaps there is someone in your life who is not your biological father and yet, they are a father figure to you. Either way, you may want to share the following story with those you love for the coming tribute to fathers everywhere.

Did you know that Father's Day began in 1909? That's right. Mrs. John B. Dodd of Washington thought up the idea as a unique way to honor her father, William Smart. Mr. Smart was a Civil War veteran. He was widowed when his wife died during the birth of their sixth child. Being left to raise the newborn and five other children by himself on a rural farm, William Smart did a great job of showing the love of a father to his children.

It was when Mrs. Dodd was an adult that she realized just how much her father had done as a single father. To honor him, she began her first official Father's Day. Interestingly, at about the same time in other areas of the country other folks were getting precisely the same idea about their fathers. Goes to show you when one person has a great idea others may be thinking the same great idea at the same time.

In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge endorsed the idea of a national Father's Day. In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.

And that's how Father's Day began! Patricia Twitchell is the proprietor of Just Bears and Stuff. Visit her at www.justbearandstuff.com.
